416 Stainless Steel Investment Castings
416 stainless steel is a martensitic often used for machined parts such as nuts, bolts, and gears. It has the highest machinability of all stainless steels with 85% free-machining ability of carbon steel. While it does offer some corrosion resistance, it’s most suitable for mild environments. For 416 stainless steel castings, Alloy 416 can also be hardened through heat treatment.
Chemical Composition of 416 Stainless Steel:
- Carbon: ≤0.15%
- Manganese: ≤1.25%
- Silicon: ≤1.00%
- Phosphorus: ≤0.06%
- Silicon: ≤0.15%
- Chromium: 12.00-14.00%
- Iron: Bal.
Industries & Applications of 416 Investment Castings:
Alloy 416 is commonly used for machined parts that require moderate corrosion resistance. Some specific applications of 416 stainless steel castings include:
- Automotive parts
- Pump/valve components
- Nuts, bolts, gears, & screws
- Fasteners
