Our Culture

Selecting Investment
Casting Alloys

When choosing an investment casting alloy, there are many things to consider such as the necessary corrosion resistance and mechanical properties required for your application. For applications that require the most corrosion resistance, we recommend stainless steel. Some of our most commonly requested alloys for investment casting include 304, 316, and 17-4 PH stainless steel.

For applications that require lightweight, corrosion resistant parts, we recommend investment cast A356 aluminum. Alloy A356 is known for its smooth surface finish and is perfectly lightweight for applications in consistent motion such as automotive parts, or pump parts.

Carbon steel is commonly poured for investment casting when significant hardness is required. This is typical for firearm components, agriculture equipment, and other equipment or machinery that doesn’t reside in corrosive environments. Additionally, carbon steel is known for being a highly affordable alloy.

For parts that need to be equally durable and corrosion resistant, we recommend our cobalt alloys. Cobalt-based alloys have significant percentages of cobalt, chromium, and carbon, making them extremely versatile and tolerant to stress. It’s common for medical implants to contain cobalt alloys due to their long lifespan.

We also provide additional specialty metals such as a variety of bronze and brass alloys, as well as tool steel, duplex, and nickel-based alloys.

If you have any additional questions about alloys we offer for investment casting, feel free to reach out to our team of experts.
